Alternatives For Digital WellBeing

Last week, in the previous article we talked about digital wellbeing. We talked about how the digital wellbeing system can help us improve our lives and manage to get some time off from screens.
But by the end of that article, we came to know that one can even turn that off and can keep going with the phone addiction. Just like the drug addicts do after coming back from the rehabs.
Since Digital WellBeing or any other system or app can never make us let go of our phone addiction rather it can only help us in doing so.
One should be the master themselves to succeed. The question arises here How?
Today we will be discussing some ways through which one can minimize the digital bad habits, as getting rid of them completely is next to impossible. Because it has become a part of our lives.

1. Be Aware

It is the best tool to channel any type of energy and tendency in us. One can even change themselves or can change their bad habits into good ones. The awareness is no doubt the murderer of habit. We do most of the things in our life because of habits.
The conscious decisions we make are countable as compared to those done habitually. The only way to breach this habitual self of ours is to be aware. If one is aware of their actions and decisions then he/she knows that if they do not need to use their phone right now then they will not.

2. Go For Alternatives

To make anything a habit, do it. To not make it a habit, do not do it. To unmake a habit, do something else in place of it. ~Epictetus

In order to quit a habit, one should develop a new habit instead. Even if one succeeds in quitting a bad habit, he/she will start doing it again as they do not have anything to fill that space that quitting that habit has created. One must have something else to do.
In the case of smartphones and phone addiction, one can simply start doing something else that could be reading a book or playing a sport.

3. Enjoy Your Own Company

One of the major reasons why it is necessary for us to not be phone addicts is because we are forgetting to get bored. We do not get bored anymore. We always have videos to watch, friends to talk to, and social media to connect with people. We have every possible dose of dopamine available which does not let us feel boredom anymore. The truth is that people do not really want to be alone with themselves. They always have some kind of distraction for not getting any chance to be alone.
We should be able to be comfortable being alone as it is therapeutic and comforting for our own selves. The people who know how to spend some hours alone with themselves have less chance of getting an addiction to phones. Or even if they get addict they still manage to be alone with themselves for some hours.
Once you get comfortable with yourself ownself you learn the art of not getting addicted to your phone and also you get to meet your best friend, which is, you.

4. Build A Routine

If one finds difficulty in any of the above-suggested ways. One should go for this one. Which is building a routine.
If one succeeds in building a routine he/she will be automatically following all of the above-mentioned steps.
