How to Keep Conversations Going

My experience as an introverted and socially anxious person

As an introvert and the person who was — I still think I am — a socially anxious person, it was always hard for me to start a conversation with someone. Of course, I couldn’t make small talk, but I also wanted to have deep connections.

A Little Background

Introverts and socially anxious people have always faced being pointed out for not being able to talk, it could be from anyone either friends, siblings, relatives, or even parents at times.
There were some people in my life who always pointed me out, and like any other person on this earth it never complimented me in any way. In fact, it always made my condition worse.

How Did I Make Any Improvement?

My improvement journey simply started some years ago when I read a book by Susan Cain “Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking”
This book helped me — and I’m sure many other introverts — a lot. A very practical solution the writer proposed in the book was firstly, to take short breaks from socializing throughout the day which can help introverts recharge and secondly, to act extrovertedly in social situations.
