Determination VS Opportunity

I can do it VS I’m on it

When I was in 11th Grade, there was a story in which there was a debate between two characters about determination and opportunity. The one which was defending the determination had the point that if one has the determination, they are capable of creating an opportunity for them. They can survive due to the will they have, the determination they have.

On the other hand, the one who was on the side of opportunity had to say something on the contrary. He believed that if there is an opportunity there is a chance to be succeeded, but, if there is no opportunity there is neither success nor progress.

Like, any other student it made me think, it made me ponder, it made me question myself, what is better determination or opportunity?

Although the story when gradually opens tells a lot about this debate and also gives a perspective of the writer, it is still a valuable question to ask. For it holds two different approaches to life.

Determination preaches a strong will and consistency. It tells us to stay focused and keep working, keep moving towards our destination. And if there is no destination (opportunity) one should keep going until it is there or they create it. The whole philosophy of determination is being consistent and unstoppable.

While, the opportunity triumphs for the chance to grow, the opportunity to be successful. It tells that if you are determined about something but there is no opportunity for it, it is useless to be determined about it. It endorses growth in a direction that has opportunities. The central idea if we simply put it, is, The more opportunities the more chance to grow.

The best approach according to me none of the above. In fact, the best approach could be the balance between the two.
One should be determined to do whatever they want to, and then they should also be looking for opportunities.
For if they have the determination and miss the opportunity when they get it, it is useless.
And, if they get the opportunity but are not well prepared to avail that opportunity for not being determined to do that thing, then it is still useless.

So, one should stay determined to what they find interesting, and keep looking for better opportunities.
The determination will make them work and get better at it every day. It will make them well prepared for the day of opportunity.
